Son visage est illuminé, baigné dans une lumière éblouissante, aveuglé par le soleil d'une pureté presque divine. La lumière éclatante du haut du tableau contraste vivement avec l'obscurité qui règne en bas. Le regard de l'homme est fixé vers une destination invisible, peut-être une quête spirituelle ou une lutte éternelle contre ses propres démons.
