Poem dedicated to my Great-Aunt and Great Uncle

Photographs
Pamela Carvajal Drapala
December 21, 2011

They capture moments of past celebrations.
They magnify life, are precious as stones to me,
these images of friends and my relations.
I place them prominently where all can see.

I place them to be viewed, each face to face
so sisters, aunts, cousins and brothers,
can reminisce of a special time or place
with grandparents, uncles and all others.

Gently aged photos encircle my existence
to keep my loved one's close, not at a distance.
Sepia, black and white, and colored film
allow me to escape into a dream realm.

Drapala Gallery, a visionary painter and photographer, is committed to giving a powerful voice through women's art and writing. Based on a deep belief in the power of art to express the strength of humanity, she has founded collaborative projects that transcend creative boundaries. One of her flagship projects is the publication of art anthologies, dedicated to women artists from around the world.

In 2018, Drapala Gallery published Strong Women's Art Anthology , a collective work celebrating women in art. The project brought together international artists and writers to share their stories, creations, and resilience. Building on the success of the first edition, Drapala launched a new call for submissions for its second volume, 2020, Women Artists' Create! , designed to reflect the strength of humanity through the challenges of the pandemic.

This collaborative project is an exceptional opportunity for female artists—painters, sculptors, photographers, writers—to submit their creations inspired by the year 2020. Drapala is committed to providing a free platform for these talents, and each artist will be able to share their work as well as the story that inspired it. Beyond the art, a portion of the proceeds from the book sales will be donated to women’s and children’s shelters, adding a charitable dimension to this artistic initiative.

Drapala Gallery continues to push the boundaries of creativity and amplify women's voices in the art world, while encouraging deep reflection on the collective strength of humanity.
