This original watercolor painting captures the timeless beauty of an old steam engine train chugging through the golden desert. The engineer can be seen in the window, with colorful black, brown, and yellow smoke billowing from the boiler through the stack or chimney. The purple blue mountains and blue sky provide the perfect backdrop to this stunningly detailed train. A reminder of the days of old, this painting is sure to delight.
The inspiration for this painting came from American Artist Howard Fogg's oil paintings. I was in an old bookstore on one of my travels and came across a book of trains. This is my 5th train painting and I really enjoy them especially the old steam engines of days gone by. What a great gift for that train collector in your life.

I am Paula Bridges, born and raised in Texas. My favorite thing to do is to combine my art with travel. Having worked in the airline industry since 1986, I have been able to combine these two passions. Although I do  plein air painting, my main practice is to take photos and bring them back to my studio where I bury myself in watercolor. My love for watercolor has grown out of the challenge it presents. Water and pigment flow in a semi uncontrolled way and I enjoy creating a painting from this process using bold bright colors with different levels of value. I do like to paint animals; however, landscapes are my love with a never ending supply of subjects from all over the world. After I complete a painting, I always send it to my 88 year old mother to critique. She was my first inspiration to paint being an artist herself.
