Talented and trained solo musician in the name of Patrick Ncube.
The artist has been in business for the past twenty years and has graced many scared and important functions both in Zimbabwe and internationally. My talent has been hailed as unique and extra-ordinaire by several renowned musicians and other prominent personalities from within n the region and the international music community.
I started as an amateur artist at the age of sixteen in the dusty township of Bulawayo, Nkulumane. It was at this juncture that the idea of Ihawu Lesizwe Music and Dance Group was mooted and then consummated. From then on we never looked back where we managed to pierce the music and dance industry without any difficulties. Our style and creativity was embraced by many including the diplomatic community who invited us to different functions including honoring their respective county’s important days. Non-Governmental organization and agencies such as the European Union showed their confidence in us by always calling us when the need arose to perform and grace their worthwhile occasions. Some of the organizations we have worked with in the past period include The Zimbabwe Germany Society, UNESCO and many others that have come and gone.
We also played a critical part in assisting organizations that are involved in HIV/AIDS Lobby and advocacy such as the National Aids Council of Zimbabwe, PSI and many others by acting as a message vehicle through arts. This assisted these organizations in sending out their messages in different forms while at the same time targeting different audiences through different vectors.
During that tireless period we also managed to get invitations to perform at different international festivals in the SADC region and European countries. In Botswana we graced the Mighty Song Festival while in The Reunion we graced the Kaba Reunion Festival. At this festival we interacted with some of the great names in Africa music such as Femi Kuti, Sally Nyolo etc.The festival gave us an opportunity to conduct arts workshops with budding artists within the African continent while at the same time we were able to learn from other artists’ experiences.
In the European hemisphere, we were able to perform in Germany at the Hanover Expo.In Sweden we performed at the Falun Folk Festival. In addition to these two we also graced some occasions in the Netherlands and France among other countries.
Our exposure through performance, learning and interacting groomed us and improved our status as a music group while at the same time created great names within the group. In the same vein, we were able to scoop some awards of great value. This enabled us to become a group to be reckoned with while great names were nurtured and then exposed to the solo world. The group was able to diversify in its marketing strategy by venturing into advertising and filming. This enabled group members to specialize in the fields they found themselves talented while also giving an opportunity to other merging personalities within the group. This is where I emerged from the group as a well nurtured and talented solo guitarist and musician.
I have had the opportunity to perform side by side with some respected internationally recognized artists such as Oliver Mtukudzi while at the same time I have held solo performances at the Harare festival of the Arts (HIFA) and many other Music Fora in Zimbabwe.
I seek to give those that have never experienced my performance and opportunity to learn about my culture, tradition, voice and talent without having to rely on electronic devices. I seek to send messages without glossing over critical issues. I seek to be a voice among many that talks sense amongst many. I seek to reflect life, love, peace while exposing the world’s uncouth abominations without suffocating my voice and instrument.
