Patrizia Salles
“I love contrasts, the earth and movement — heavily textured backgrounds highlighted with opulent touches."
Born in Bordeaux, France, by the age of six Patrizia had crisscrossed three continents. At age seven Patrizia was creating geometric abstracts in oil pastels. School years saw Patrizia the recipient of numerous art prizes, culminating in a Gold — National Scholastic Key Award in New York. She graduated Magna Cum Laude in graphic design at Art Institute of Atlanta and spent 25 years in marketing and communications at the helm of a top Houston, Texas design firm. In 2000 Patrizia returned to her art full time, opening a Caribbean studio in 2005.
Patrizia's art is found in museums, public gardens and private collections across the globe. Her largest commission: a 12 sqm (35 sql) mosaic swimming pool overlooking the Caribbean waters. Her art is showcased in "Mosaic Art Today", a fine art book featuring top international artists, Schiffer Publishing, NY. Patrizia relocated to Italy in 2016 seeking new influences and further artistic growth. She opened at the Ligurian State Museum marventimiglia.com with "Madre Terra: In our Hands" in the summer of 2019. The three-month solo show featured 27 paintings and three large statues.
Her life and art, a divide between "Old World" and "New World" examines cultural differences, spirituality and beliefs, interpretations of past influences, societal change and interchange. Her lighter and brighter works reflect beauty, hope and a gratefulness to nature — motion and texture playing an important part in her creations. The plight of women and humanity in our contemporary culture is also a focus in Patrizia's work, "those who live a life they did not choose — of freedom in absentia."
Today, Patrizia continues her studied in ancient civilizations and archeology, a passion acquired during her years living and travel in the Mediterranean and Texas . . . and her journey of exploration and diversity continues — of place, culture and time.

Out of the ashes rises the Phoenix, an ancient mythological story that launches the bird always towards the sun to be reborn every 500 years. In this rendition the Phoenix as winged woman, the sun emits rays that transcend our oceans in medusa-like tentacles superimposed by a lotus flower. Celtic infinity knots connect the freed queen to her Epicurus side with a tribute to Bacchus. A catty eye within the flame is all-seeing.

"There has always been something deeply satisfying in working my way through an intricate artistic piece, and mosaic is a lasting and time tested art form!." Memories of Roman floors and baths, Moorish columns and parapets have shaped the flow of Patrizia mosaics.

Much of my work goes in to illustrating concrete, figures or ideas. In the midst of creating these ideas on paper, canvas, in the form of sculpture or mosaic, there lies an outer vision requiring further refinement into abstract formulations. This series represents just that.

In a true spiritual moment, internationally acclaimed Venezuelan artist Pablo Bobbio, came into my life and helped me return to her art. Through his teaching I learned a technique to blindly create on paper, extracting and transforming serendipitous images into abstract shapes.
This series is made of of studies on paper which are later enlarged and painted onto canvas. Textures are added to the jute in layers of sand, gesso paste and concrete with acrylic glazes.

New Sculptures Released
June 2024 will see the unveiling of a series of new statues and paintings at the much awaited NAG Art Gallery Show in Pietrasanta in Tuscany. Months in the making, I've organized for your perusal the photos and videos of the sculptures and the process.
A key step in bronze art creation is to pull a wax version from the mold. The wax is then adjusted for an accurate match to the original sculpture, which in this case was created in clay.

A Multifaceted Couple
Year-end 2022 was total immersion — finishing a pair of sculptures after several years of awaiting transport to Europe. When asked what led to the inspiration for this up-beat duo, Patrizia recalled "I wanted to create multicultural personalities that reflect the world we live in today. Part of the New World Collection, HE and SHE are a melding of 21st century pop-art, reggae, hip-hop and world music genres. Of emerging fashion among celebs and the brilliant vibe found on the global stage.”

SHE / 2012- 2022
Patrizia's choice for this multifaceted vision? Mosaics, thousands of painstaking and lovingly placed tessera, a mixtures of glass 24 karat gold and sterling silver, millefiori, beads and found objects. The dual personality statues feature a fun and vivacious side with a classically, formal flip side.
He Detail
HE / 2013-2023
HE stands 225 centimeters tall, SHE slightly less. The bases are wood.

A selection of international art galleries invites you to discover the original works of established artists but also emerging young talents. Luxembourg Art Fair is a bold blend of favorite art and the finest representation of contemporary artistic creation.
Our definition of contemporary art gets rid of discourse and symbolism for the benefit of living artists and the emotion aroused by their works. The search for the beautiful, the living art, the intelligence of the hand, the emotion, the aesthetics, this is what we claim and what we believe in!
