Patrick Chappert-Gaujal is a French artist born in 1959 in Bédarieux in Hérault.

He has been sensitive to art since a young age thanks to his father, who creates in his free time and the father of one of his classmates who is a professional artist.

P. Chappert-Gaujal is 8 years old, he is immediately intrigued, he likes to watch them paint.

At 15, he dreamed of joining the Ecole Supérieur des Beaux-Arts de Perpignan, the ESAP: he would be the youngest student there. He followed the "Art Department" cycle in contact with professors from the Supports/Surfaces group.

The budding artist seeks to develop a personal practice. He is attracted by the material, painting, DIY, adventure and also by the idea of collection, recycling, mixed with a strong propensity for curiosity. From this period of discovery he will retain a regular use of seaweed: driftwood, floats, plastics, beach shoes...

It is in fact the trace that interests him, obsesses him, it is certainly for this reason that his approach sometimes rubs shoulders with a sort of reinvented archaeology/ethnology.

He began exhibiting in 1975. In 1985, he moved to Sweden, where he remained until 1990. This is where his long collaboration with the famous GKM Sivert Bergström gallery began.

The artist travels, stays and works twice in South Africa, then in Asia and again in Africa (Dakar Biennale), in the United States, in Europe and finally in China for a work produced and exhibited at the Red Bricks Art Museum in Beijing…

He ended up dividing his time between two workshops: Fitou, for large formats, sculptures, paintings and La Franqui, a small seaside resort on the shores of the Mediterranean where he currently lives and works.

The artist has completed several commissions for monumental pieces for companies and institutions.

Since 1975, P. Chappert-Gaujal has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in France, Sweden, China, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Senegal, the United States, etc.
