This artwork is inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's sketches depicting the Madonna with Child and a cat. Although the great master never created a finished painting with this subject, his drawings capture the tenderness and harmony of maternal love, enriched by the playful presence of a cat.
In medieval Europe, cats were often associated with mysticism and even superstition, but Leonardo, a known animal lover, frequently sketched them in his studies.
In this modern interpretation, I wanted to convey the same warmth and natural connection: the infant reaching out to the cat while the mother watches with a gentle smile. The piece is created using a mixed technique of watercolor and graphite, giving it a soft and vintage aesthetic.
