Contemporary Winter Scene in Red & Blue
This painting brings to life a cherished winter memory—one of childhood joy and the pure thrill of play. As a child, I remember sledding down a snow-covered hill with friends, laughing and racing until the daylight began to fade. We were so immersed in the game that we didn’t notice the world around us slowly quieting as evening fell.
The scene is fixed in my memory: standing on that hill, a snow-dusted tree before me, with the warmth of homes in the distance, their chimneys sending up steady columns of smoke—a sign of the cold, crisp winter air. The calm, unbroken smoke suggests even deeper cold, a familiar omen in Ukraine when the temperature plummets. Behind the houses, fields stretch toward an international road where cars whizzed by, heading toward distant lands.
With its bold red and blue hues, this painting contrasts the warmth of childhood energy with the serene beauty of a winter evening, inviting to remember the fleeting moments of joy in simpler times.
