Niki de Saint Phalle was a French-American artist known for her vibrant and unconventional artworks, which often blended sculpture, painting, and performance art. Born Catherine-Marie-Agnès Fal de Saint Phalle on October 29, 1930, in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France, she rose to prominence in the mid-20th century as a prominent figure in the feminist art movement.

Saint Phalle's work often challenged traditional norms and conventions, tackling issues such as gender, sexuality, and societal expectations. She gained widespread recognition for her "Nanas" sculptures, larger-than-life figures of voluptuous women celebrated for their exuberance and celebration of femininity.

Perhaps her most famous work is the Tarot Garden (Le Jardin des Tarots) in Tuscany, Italy, which she spent over 20 years creating. This sprawling sculpture park features monumental sculptures inspired by the figures of the tarot deck, showcasing Saint Phalle's vivid imagination and boundless creativity.

Throughout her career, Saint Phalle experimented with various mediums and techniques, including painting, assemblage, and mosaic. Her bold use of color and form, coupled with her fearless approach to art-making, earned her a reputation as one of the most innovative and influential artists of her time.

Beyond her artistic endeavors, Saint Phalle was also a vocal advocate for social change and activism. She used her art as a platform to address issues such as racism, poverty, and environmental degradation, championing causes close to her heart with unwavering passion and conviction.
