Glossy finish

Oil painting 60 cm high by 40 cm wide on a 0.5 cm thick wooden panel depicting the god Bacchus in a state of exaltation, euphoric and screaming. To transcribe the energy of the gesture I chose to apply the paint in vigorous strokes alla prima, in a single layer. Only a few highlights, and a darkening of the background, were added in the second layer. Areas of diluted paint rub shoulders with areas of thick paint. The colors are simple, the light subject contrasts with the dark background, the flesh tones are balanced with the shades of green of the plant crown and the fabric. I wanted to give the god of drunkenness a vigorous posture and a hallucinated look.

A self-taught cartoonist, I have long practiced comics as a hobby. For years I devoted myself to black and white ink drawing, rather comic or fanciful, with a predilection for caricature, while making a few forays into watercolor. Then I discovered digital painting. I studied the techniques of classical painting that I reproduced on the computer. Finally, it was in oil painting that I found the medium with which I preferred to express myself. I know today that my life cannot be done without painting, to the point of having launched myself as a professional. As for the subjects, I can paint them from nature or from photography.
