PRESENTATION of PHILIPPE NICOLAÏ
I was born on November 25, 1972 in Bastia and originally from Crocicchia, a small hamlet in Castagniccia.
Painting has always been an integral part of my life. But as a self-taught painter, I did not plan to make my way in the world of artistic painting; with the years and experiences my desire to express myself became stronger and stronger, irrepressible and urgent. So I began to exhibit my paintings in different exhibitions. Throughout my life I wanted to explore different modes of expression, comics, portraits, figurative art... My favorite artists: TANINO LIBERATORE, then COMES, and obviously CORTO MALTESE; My favorite painters: FRAZETTA, SIUDMAK WOJTEK, but the electroshock was VAN GOGH who opened, for sure, a window in my vision of painting. Of course I am amazed by the great masters of the 19th and 20th centuries like Monet, Klimt, Modigliani, Toffoli, ….. In general I am touched by artists who undertake a real research on the form, the pictorial technique and the transmission of emotions. On the other hand everything that is abstract, conceptual and “militant” is completely indifferent to me. For my part, it is the work of the brush, the knife, the search for suggestive color games, singular features and the attempt to convey a state of mind, a moment of life, which propel me in my research; I consider that my achievements have led me towards an evolution navigating between impressionism and expressionism in which I integrate a personal writing. Finally the only thing that matters to me when I paint is not to convey a message, but that the canvas, in which I put all my soul, can touch the soul of the one who looks at it, very gently, like …………… TWO SOULS THAT CARESS EACH OTHER! The subjects of my paintings are quite varied, landscapes, situations, meetings, portraits… In an overall view I can say that 2 major recurring themes stand out so far: the theme of Love, in all its aspects, and the theme of Woman. In any case, to trigger my creativity it is necessary that the subject touches a sensitive chord in me, at a time in my life where nothing hinders or upsets my inspiration. A bit like what happens with music which is my second great passion; Another favorite pastime is cinema, in all its seams. The majority of my sales were made online on the KAZOART Virtual Gallery; the others at the NOIR ET BLANC Gallery in Bastia.
