Colorful realist painting of a group of museum visitors. Work is a part of a whole series of similar scenes, all of which are titled The Presence. They in the majority are based on photographs of the public in the Met Museum in New York. Upon obtaining photographs artist carefully collaged them into more impressive than reality figurative compositions. He altered figures and colors of clothing. The artist intentionally uses views of only the backs of people in order to make figures more universal. These backs are always set to remind someone directly known to the viewers. And for the artist too, they always appear as his old friends, family members, or well-known people. For Nicholaas Chiao his museum series is a dialogue with the old masters and their masterworks, so often seen on the backgrounds.

Works from this series were first shown at the Affordable Art Fair in New York in 2006, to great success among collectors, selling 3 out of 3 museum paintings for $4800 each respectfully. Inspiration for the first piece came from the travel to the German town Rudolstadt to the old castle and its art gallery. The artist traveled there in 2005 to meet his Belarus-born girlfriend together with German friends. In the Rudolstadt gallery, he photographed her on the beautiful tiled floor, with a chessboard and gorgeous stallion on it. It was liked even by Jerry Saltz, an art critic.
