Originally from Nairobi, Kenya, Elaine Ngendo was a long time resident of Toronto, before making a big shift, starting with a short (insightful) stint in Nairobi and after which she settled in Montréal with her husband, where she continues her new found career in art.
Her artwork comes from a desire to create tranquil moments - where thoughts can be illuminated and flourish. She uses texture, colour and rhythm above all to evoke sensation, giving the mind room to wander, to graze and nourish itself.
Working mainly in oil and acrylic paint, Ngendo’s work references the beauty she has found in the places she has lived in and visited within Canada and Kenya.
The most crucial part in her process however, is in finding patterns embedded within colours and forms and making associations to outline the beginnings of a story. A story which is given fullness of form in the viewers imagination.
Her work can be found in private collections in Canada, the Unites States, the UK, Colombia and Kenya.
