To create Ballet’s Whisper, the face, hands and feet were first sculpted in clay, then a rubberized mold was created of each piece. This was followed by the pouring of plaster into the mold. Once the plaster had dried and cured, the casts were freed from the mold. To create the metal portions of the body, a cast was taken of the full body of the ballerina, which was built in clay. The bicycle chains were reclaimed, their links separated, and then welded together piece by piece into the shape of the underlying clay sculpture. She was then painted by hand.
This piece stands as a fusion of artistry and engineering, where the ballerina's fragmented form suggests motion frozen in time. The interplay between solid materials and flowing design reflects the effortlessness of ballet despite its demanding nature.
