Myungsoo Yi is a contemporary artist based in South Korea, specializing in recreating virtual spaces on canvas inspired by her personal experiences and memories. Her artworks reflect deep philosophical introspection, drawing on childhood recollections such as the soft glow through paper windows and the intricate patterns seen through worn window holes.

Influenced by the nostalgic charm of traditional Korean aesthetics, particularly the paper windows of historic Seoul homes, Yi infuses her creations with layers of sentiment and meaning. She employs Hanji, a traditional Korean paper known for its translucency, layering and burning it on canvas to achieve a "reflecting effect" that evokes the essence of these traditional windows.

Yi's meticulous process involves burning, overlapping, and layering Hanji to create organic artworks with irregular patterns that add depth and direction to the canvas. Each layer of Hanji contributes to the texture, durability, and visual impact of the final piece, with the burning time determining the size of the paper holes and revealing glimpses of the underlying imagery.

Through her art, Yi explores themes of self-expression and human connection, inviting viewers to engage in a dialogue and delve into the depths of human experience. Her work offers a profound sense of sharing and interaction, allowing others to connect with her artistic journey.
