'The Splash 1'
Feb 2022

From the "Dark Blue" series.

At the basis of this work is the paper collage 'Splash 1'; a paper collage built up with 3 elements.

The Background image is an illustration of Ralph Weiss' photo 'Onoclée sensitive', 1969.
The top image is the upper half of George Silk's photography 'Jeune Plongeuse", 1962.
The graphic composition is minimalist and surprisingly off balance.

This collage composition is superimposed to an image of a destroyed church wall in Bihac, Bosnia.
Both images are transferred on canvas and finished with oil paint.

Added to the composition is a vintage paper illustration; a part of Colette Duval's face.
Colette Duval was a French parachutist, high fashion model and actress. In 1956 she broke the world record for descent in free-fall above the bay of Rio de Janeiro and was fished out of the Atlantic.

Mixed media composition on 80 x 60 x 4 cm canvas.
The artwork is signed, varnished and delivered with a certificate of authenticity.
