Maria Dolores Morcillo Gomez was born in southwest Spain in 1953 and moved to Brussels while still a teenager. Her initiation into the artistic world was in the realm of photography, with her pictures of the "Venice Simplon-Orient-Express" in 1982. Other multimedia forms such as sound and video came later, further honing her talents. Through trips to New York, Florence, London and Paris she acquired a new way of looking at painting and was so profoundly marked by her travels that her creative passion ultimately expanded beyond the boundaries of film.
Her paintings reflect the light of her native Extremadura, with an intriguing blend of the photographer's keen eye for composition and the sensitivity to colours of Le Douanier Rousseau.
