Missy was born in the heart of the Mississippi delta in Clarksdale. She grew up on the Gulf Coast, spending most of her time in New Orleans and the Florida panhandle. She studied under master Japanese printmaker Sumi Putman at the University of South Alabama. While under her instruction Missy learned all types of intaglio such as etching, lithography and collograph.
While developing her style, vibrant, textured monoprints became the primary focus of Missy's printmaking. At the same time, she was a graphic design student and began experimenting with computer art and digital printmaking, pioneering the movement by making prints which today are called Giclee's.
Throughout her commercial art career she has created designs for major theme parks including Six Flags, Paramount Parks, Sea World, Disney, and corporations like Anheuser-Busch, Miller Brewing and Coca Cola .
Greatly Influenced and inspired by masters like Helen Frankenthaler, Robert Rauschenberg and Andy Warhol, Missy's early shows featured multi-media prints and works on canvas, incorporating various painting and pop art design styles.
Her latest works are a print series entitled
"21st Century Pin Ups."
These limited edition prints are made from photos taken during Missy's unique interactive art happenings. They are contemporary fine art pin ups celebrating the beauty and spirit of today's women. "What began as me making nude prints of myself has grown into an ongoing creative experience and a beautiful collection that I want to share with everyone." Missy currently presents art happenings at galleries and venues around the country and does commission work from her home studio.
"I love the primitive and unique quality of hand-pulled prints and the excitement of combining etching techniques. As an American printmaker, I will continue to grow and explore the digital art medium, taking advantage of new technology and it's endless design possibilities."
