This series of engravings in etching was realized in 2008, when I was studying at "L'Atelier Contrapoint", under the supervision of the artist Juan Valladares.
At his workshop I got acquainted with a special technique of color printing invented by the British engraver Stanley William Hayter. A specific feature of Hayter's technique is to treat independently each print out of the same die. Therefore each print can be considered as an original.
I was interested in the technical procedure, not in the idea of printing in series. That's why at first I planned to have a print run of 10 copies for each artwork: an "artist proof" and 9 copies. However, circumstances forced me to stop my training, so I managed to make just some engravings.

Miguel Esquivel Kuello is a contemporary visual artist and musician originally from Colombia, based in Paris. His artistic practice encompasses a wide array of mediums, including painting, drawing, engraving, photography, video art, and music, reflecting his diverse interests and talents.

Esquivel Kuello began his artistic training in Bogotá, where he graduated with a degree in Fine Arts from Universidad de la Sabana in 1996. During his time in Colombia, he also studied cinematography at ACOPROCINE School and at the Museum of Modern Art, while simultaneously practicing music with the Orquesta Sinfónica Juvenil de Bogotá. This multifaceted education laid the foundation for his interdisciplinary approach to art.

After moving to Paris, Esquivel Kuello further refined his skills, particularly in engraving, at the Atelier Contrapoint. He also earned a Master’s degree in Aesthetics and Art History from Université Paris 8, deepening his understanding of the theoretical frameworks that underpin contemporary art.

His work explores themes of time and dimension, atmosphere and chiaroscuro, as well as the interplay of materials such as journal paper and collage. He delves into concepts of eroticism, lace, unconsciousness, and emotion, allowing these ideas to coalesce in a dynamic dialogue within his art. Through his diverse practices, Miguel Esquivel Kuello continues to push the boundaries of artistic expression, creating works that resonate with complexity and depth.
