Les os prehistorique (2020) Painting by Michel Pedneault

A native of the Saguenay Rive region of Quebec, Michel Pedneault is a multi-talented artist whose work has been greatly influenced by both his father ( a master welder in the early days of Alcan), and the social and natural environment of city and country life.

One of the infamous members of  the Quebec artist collective P.D.G., P(edneault), D(esautels) et G(audrault),  he was instrumental  in pioneering the ‘3 x 4’ or ‘peinture en direct’  happening at Les Foufounes Électriques in the early '80's.

Pedneault's work ranges from small format figurative paintings depicting portraits of ‘club culture' to larger landscape canvases either portraying the flavor of his native Saguenay region or the hinterland wilderness of the Quebec forests and rivers.  He addresses the chaotic balance of the forest, climate, geography, isolation and solitude, earth’s historical layers, and nature’s fleeting moments, offset by the the explosion of industry.

In the last decade, Pedneault has turned to abstract works, reminiscent of colorful assemblages of the inner workings of machinery. As well as painting, he produces a rich diversity of sculpture, making use of what is at hand in the recycling of ‘objets trouvé’.
