I was born in Brandon Manitoba to Metis parents but spent most of my life in Saskatchewan. I have family ties all across Canada and into the States, but many of my immediate family members live in the Prairie Provinces. I married and moved to England but now reside in Calgary Alberta since 2006. I enjoyed my time overseas however; Canada is and always will be my homeland. I have ancestors that originated from the Red River area in Manitoba and close family ties to Louis Riel. I have traced my French Metis (Mechiff) Ancestry to the 1500's and my Native Ancestors which includes (Salteaux,Cree, Anishinabe) to the late 1700's.
I decided to pursue my creative talents and art expressions upon moving to Calgary in October of 2006. Prior to that point I never made time for it but always knew I loved painting, sculpture and writing, I have an inherent knack for it. I once told the director of a creative drama group that my art/creativeness is what makes my spirit soar, bringing fullness and a renewed sense of aliveness.
The person who encouraged me to pursue art when I was younger was my Uncle Clarence (Clarence Campeau Economic Development Fund). I would run to him when he came to visit with a pencil in my hand so he could draw for me. He was a very talented artist but not many were aware of it. I continued with art in school and won the art award upon completion of grade Eight. I am also inspired by my aunt who is a traditional birch bark biting artist and song writer.
My inspiration and some of my planned art work will focus on the area of Batoche and my spiritual/family connection to it. I am also inspired by my dreams, family, history, Native/Metis culture and nature
