Bébé attendu (2011) Sculpture by Max Bernard

I discovered this practice somewhat by chance while training to become a special needs educator in 1979. Since then, I've been sculpting irregularly but continuously. An internship, a converted garage, a small workshop, have all constituted my work environment, or rather, my leisure time. In more than thirty years of this practice, the pleasure is renewed each time.

From the slightly naughty little dancer to the old man bent under the weight of years, passing by the birth of a couple emerging from the same block or by the man beaten down by labor or sorrow, my gouges have each time attempted to impose a form on the wood that it enjoys varying according to its grain, its volumes, and its whims.
