THERIANTHROP

Therianthropes have no need to dress in fur suits because they believe that inside they are already their animal.

With Therianthrop, artist Ecker opens another excursion into the origins of modern "Homo Aestheticus" symbolized by body figures lined up around the picture plane. Connected by their gender, they form a powerful community whose happiness is based on each other. The cave figures are ephemeral but the principle of a strong community is still present today.
The sculpture-like painting, composed of three layers of oil paint and real silver, achieves a three-dimensional view with edges and surfaces that protrude, giving the viewer the feeling of a cave experience that connects the past with the present.

The inspiration of the painting is based on many years of exploration of our ancestors, multiple visits to iconic places such as Tassili n'Ajjer, Grotte Chauvet, Lascaux, Peche Merle, Hollow Rock. . .

Martin Ecker is a professional photographer who includes chance in his works as a method in his creative process.

He is concerned with the decoding of the coincidence and at the same time with the manipulation. He uses different and unique methods that he has developed over the years: In analog photography, for example, these are works with living organisms. In painting, it is the oxidation processes of precious metals.

Martin Ecker is working and living in Berlin (Germany). He has participated in many exhibitions in Berlin and in Germany. He has received many awards such as the IF Communication Award in 2008 (Germany)  and the American Excellent Award - Siemens Mobile Communication (Germany) in 2001. His work is present in many public collections in Germany:  About Change Collection Berlin/München and Friedrich Berlin
