A mixed media work on wood about solitude. Most of Pauwels' work is inspired by the fragility of the human being.
In this piece she depicts the solitary people she sees in the streets.
Like In most of Pauwels' paintings the background in this piece is "built" through different layers of sand, carefully chosen text-layers and paint, creating depth and texture. That is why she prefers to work on wood instead of canvas. The figure is painted in the end, almost transparent with pencil and oil paint. She often places her figures in front of walls, always leaving a gap or window open, to invite the viewer to look beyond the appearance.
