My name is Marina Vaporaki and I was born and grew up in Heraklio, Crete where I continue to live and work today. l studied tourisn businesses but from a very young age I had a love for art and was enchanted by the power of colour. l started self - taught practising and reading about art, trying to find my own path. I was really lucky to meet two charismatic teachers, so l studied art painting next to them who where great and inspirational artists. Androniki Chadsidaki teached me the art of Byzantine icons and Vasilis Kampolis teached me theory, tecnics and helped me by opening up the horizons of art to me.
I have been working professionally since 2003, participating in a number of group exhibitions between 2003-2008, while in 2008 I presented my first individual exhibition while l continue presenting my art work both in group and solo exhibitions. Since 2009 l own a workshop where l keep teaching art. l have curated five art exhibitions for my students in Heraklio during these years. I gave art lessons voluntarily for two years to orphan children and to children with special abilities at the “Dikaioma of Life” centre, having also created number of christmas cards and calendars for this centre. I also have designed several book covers.
My work has been published in the local press and can be found in private and public collections in Greece and abroad.
