I grew up in a small village in The Netherlands, Zegveld, as the daughter of Heemskerk painting company. You could say I learned about painting at my father’s knee.
I was a creative child that loved to draw and had ample opportunity to explore that passion because of the great amounts of paint available to me.
Nevertheless, I decided not to go on into drawing after secondary school. I chose to pursue a career in civil engineering and for a while, I did not draw very much at all.
However, I kept feeling an urge to express myself creatively. After a few years of working as a professional, I enrolled at the Royal Art Academy in The Hague as a student of architectural design. After the first year, however, I was forced to quit the programme as I was unable to combine working and studying.
During my 3-year stay in Malawi, Africa, where I worked for the organisation Voluntary Service Overseas, I started painting my nudes.
After my return, I took some courses in painting nudes and developed my own style.
