Man Zhu

Man Zhu is a photographer who specializes in fine art. She is a photographer who explores photography and works as a freelance portrait photographer. Her creative process is based on semiotic principles, as she seeks out the representative elements of each subject, appropriating and retaining each subject's past, and incorporating them into self-portraiture. The use of expired film from a specific year for imaging is significant for this group of works. Her parents', lovers', and self-birth years have become her symbols, leaving an indelible mark on the negative. Because of the subject's uncontrollable samples and media, the final images and initial ideas are frequently dissimilar. This phenomenon is related to the expectations and realities of human relationships.

Man Zhu is a scholarship women recipient and a representative of Savannah School of Art and Design's MFA degree in photography and School of Visual Arts' MPS degree in digital photography. UnFrame: Relationship, a representative work, has participated in art exhibitions in New York, Savannah, Cincinnati, and Minneapolis, winning the Juror's Choice Award. Zhu won third place in the Book / Fine Art category in 2021 with UnFrame: Relationship.
