Lydia Ehlers is a contemporary South African artist specialising in encaustic works.
Also known as hot wax painting, this artform goes back to ancient Greek and Roman paintings. Between 100 and 300 AD some Egyptian tombs contained examples of encaustic art.
Ms. Ehlers is a self-taught artist. She started to experiment with water colours and oils. In 2009, she discovered encaustic art and has since became a leading example in that art technique.
In 2012 Ms. Ehlers was invited by the War Museum in Bloemfontein (Mangaung), South Africa to crate and donate works that commemorate the Anglo-Boer War of 1899 to 1902. in 2014, Ms. Ehlers participated in the ABSA Ar’lier competition under the theme Unite to Conserve.
