Lorelei Linklater is a multi-media artist and film actress native to Austin, TX. In 2015, she graduated from California College of the Arts, where she received a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in painting. Since graduating, Lorelei Linklater has been exhibited in solo and group shows throughout the Bay Area, Los Angeles, and various cities throughout Texas.
Her art explores a variety of concepts, including the passing of time and how it influences not only human emotion but the concept of manufactured permanence. In her most prominent series of paintings, Lorelei Linklater continues to find meaning in isolated and abandoned locations such as factories, quiet streets, and abandoned railroads. Although these locations often invoke in people a sense of unease and depression at the lack of nature and beauty, Lorelei Linklater’s use of color and dimension breaths life back into these scenes and shows the complexity of abandoned urban areas. She has often cited her upbringing in different environments as her inspiration for exploring landscapes.
Lorelei Linklater’s art technique, specifically within her paintings, uses multiple layers to express the layers of time and decay often discussed in her work. She will often build many layers on her canvass’s surface during her painting process only to sand the layers down, adding a smooth yet textured base for her art. Overall, her realist technique allows audiences to self-identify with the landscapes while the dimensionality of the canvas breaths additional life into the scenes. Through her experimentation with dimensionality, light, and texture she strives to convey something very tangible but also to evoke an emotionally charged atmosphere in which the viewers own inner life can be regarded.
Currently Lorelei teaches painting to Children and Young adults at the Cordovan Art school in Austin Texas.
