The artist's real name is Sergey Litvinov, currently working under the pseudonym Liu de Sade. Liu is a self-taught conceptual artist specializing in both painting (expressionism) and photography.
Liu is a conceptual photographer and expressionist painter whose works are consistently infused with elements of eroticism and delve into the depths of human nature through the lens of existentialism. The central theme of his art is the inherent meaninglessness of life and the attempt to understand it through creativity. Liu is deeply fascinated by the study of the unconscious, exploring the hidden and shadow sides of humanity, often repressed by modern societal norms. Drawing inspiration from Foucault and Jung, he examines how society influences these suppressed aspects of human nature. His artistic approach naturally integrates his interest in psychology and biology, allowing him to subtly weave these subjects into his work. For Liu, sublimation is a way to escape his own thoughts and reality, making his art even more personal and layered.
