Hello! My name is Leo Schteinberg. I'm a surrealist artist, living and working in Saint-Petersburg, Russia.
I’m an artist who cares about the subject of love, the role and place of the modern woman in the world and the freedom.
I create my works very emotionally. Strong emotions and feelings make me have a dialogue with other people and myself through the art.
The idea of knowing love and the possibility to let it out on a painting is very important to me. I feel that I need to speak up in these questions.
My goal is to make a spectator feel the freedom inside through my artworks. To think, to talk and to choose freely.
In my paintings I attach high importance to the color. I prefer deep, contrast and laconic colors.
I use acrylic very often, sometimes prefer oil paint. Acrylic dense and compact smears and its ability to become dry very quickly is important for me, when I create a work “a la prima” very fast. Viscosity and multilayer of painting in oil gives me a chance of continuous thinking during the process of creation. Also, I work with watercolor paint and thick watercolor paper. I love to watch its magic when one color flows through another one and creates transparency.
The storyline of my artworks is always a symbiosis of inner emotional experience and my personal, subjective opinion on one or another subject.
Through art I want to understand myself, the world and tell everyone my story.
My paintings are in private collections around the world: Russia, Ukraine, USA, Spain, Belgium, France, Germany, Indonesia, Belgium, Belorussia.

During to Covid-19 quarantine I took part in a very interesting collaboration. Some restaurants in Saint-Petersburg decided to add art to the delivery service. I've made special paintings based on my art works for their bags. I really love this idea, because art together with tasty food brings joy to people.

Cherry Blossom #3 from my Painting on Leaves collection is now framed under glass and ready to hang. All leaves were prepared to hold the gouache. I think they are a perfect surface to paint on because the nature gave them without suffering. And a leaf is an original and unusual present.

Mrs T is a composite character of all women. She’s ironical, playful and provocative. The true woman will enjoy herself, love life and chill out.
Cigarettes and alcohol are just a relaxing element of liberation; they are not advocating. Because women were forbidden to be free and now everything changes. Women can afford themselves to love everyone they want, to drink, to smoke and take pleasure of freedom.
