Après le BAC et deux années d'école de photo (EFFET), Laurent Paillier travaille pendant une année comme assistant de plateau (en 1988) dans les studios de prise de vue de publicité Rouchon et Baobab pour y apprendre [...]

Après le BAC et deux années d'école de photo (EFFET), Laurent Paillier travaille pendant une année comme assistant de plateau (en 1988) dans les studios de prise de vue de publicité Rouchon et Baobab pour y apprendre l'éclairage et la photographie professionnelle. Il y assiste des photographes de mode (Peter Lindbergh, Bettina Rheims, Walter Chin ...) dans l’un et de catalogues de vente par correspondance dans le second.

Deux années de travail en laboratoire professionnel et de façonnage lui apportent des connaissances qui lui seront utiles sur le développement et le tirage photo.

Une exposition de photos sur Carolyn Carlson dans le centre culturel de St Brieuc le marque au point de décider dix ans plus tard de son orientation en 1991 vers la photo de danse contemporaine. Il réalise une série d'expositions sur le sujet, puis entame une fructueuse collaboration de dix années avec le magazine "Les Saisons de la Danse". Photographe attitré ou occasionnel de nombreuses compagnies de danse, ses photographies sont utilisées pour des affiches, des programmes de théâtres, la presse quotidienne et magazine (Le théâtre de la Ville, Libération, Le Monde, Le Figaro, L'express...) et le cinéma.

Parallèlement il travaille sur le thème de la famille et du monde ouvrier pour la presse associative et réalise des portraits de personnages insolites pour la presse magazine spécialisée et généraliste (Nouvel Observateur, L'Express, Beaux-Arts, Cheval mag...)

A partir de 1995 il utilise les logiciels de retouche d'image pour restaurer des documents photographiques du 19eme siècle appartenant à la Bibliothèque Historique de la Ville de Paris.
Ce travail sera publié par la Ville de Paris et exposé.

Aujourd'hui, son site internet lui permet de nouer de nouveaux contacts avec les professionnels et passionnés de danse contemporaine de France et d’ailleurs et de donner un nouvel élan à sa quête de l’image de danse.
