All That Shines Under The Dirt is an immersive installation composed of giant flowers made out of found crashed cans in one of the Detroit 's neighborhood. I made 19 large scale flowers (inspired by drawings made by kids and people of the neighborhood where I found the cans ). I collected and washed cans for about 20 months. There's a video documentation, if you are interested in seeing that. I assembled all the flowers mechanically using wire, can by can. After many failed approaches I found a way to assemble the cans that was stable. The sculpture has 2 facings different from each other. I used it suspended but it can also be mounted on the wall.
I am self thought. My background is in dance but my mind likes to assemble structures with all kinds of materials.
I work mostly with trash or disposable objects. I see trash as energy. My work is inspired by The First Law of Thermodynamics (Conservation) which states that energy is always conserved, it cannot be created or destroyed. "The total amount of energy and matter in the Universe remains constant, merely changing from one form to another. I sense this constantly and I can't stop thinking about it.
Trash/Litter is here to stay but I can make it beautiful. People walk by it and don't see it. Even when people see my sculptures they don't realize it's trash; they think I crash the cans by hands!
Artist Statement for the project.
All That Shines Under The Dirt is what catches my eyes, sparks of light under the dirt, dormant energy lost in space, traces of human behavior which I sense and have a desire to gather. I feel if I assemble all this energy together into a new form I will understand something about myself my surroundings and our human fragility. It’s also my desire to pick up the disposable and give it a second chance to be seen.

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME
I love moving.
As long as I can remember, I was always interested in moving. Dance was my way into studying this world. It took many years and lots of traveling to understand in this messy field what I was really interested in.
It was not dance forms or styles.
My passion was really to learn the mechanics of movement, our animal-self.
With that I found Freedom, freedom from form, institutions, academia, competition, a safe and solid place where I could teach myself about myself where I could sense myself in relation to everything else.
With that I found the beautiful logic of life and its elements, the connection to my weight, my energy, gravity, air, life, The Earth, and It changed my placement in the world.

ARTIST STATEMENT
Form is the result of energy patterns, behavior, accidents, chemical balance....
Form is always there
Possibilities are always there.

I sense energy around me.
I observe my body and how it connects to everyday life through movements.
I practice movement improvisation
I practice listening, seeing.
I practice using my hands.
I practice cleaning outside.
I practice patience.
I practice saying hi to people.

My work at least for now feels like a puzzle. Gathering pieces to understand the whole pictures, to fix what’s broken, to find what’s missing.
It helps me coping with the madness of the world of human beings.
It reminds me of beauty.
It keeps me hopeful.
It keeps me alert.
