Asandhimitra, an Indian Fantasy

This painting, is an imaginative fantasy scene of a young exotic Indian Eastern female possessing a regal air of grace, in which the picture ooze's wealth, oppulence and charm.

The focus of the picture is sumptuous, strong and colourful but enchanting.

The technique used in this painting is watercolour over pencil on quality Windsor and Newton paper, it was painted back in 1989. This painting is polychromatic, which enables to capture the layers and intensity in this vivid flamboyant artwork.

The artwork has many striking contrasting colours and shades.

The radiant colour of rich fuschia with brown, yellows, green and gold, typical colours of the East, provides strength and enriches the scene. These bold lavish colours, allow the idea of a dreamy romantic young woman clad in deep coĺoured fuschia and gold gown, perhaps ready for an event?
 
The regal damsel captivates and allures the eyes to focus on her, her skin pale and face porcelain like with kohl-lined eyes. She's gracefully sat poised on a luxurious green bolster cushion, herself draped in an magnificent rich coloured fuschia gown, embellished with gold trim. In contrast she's wearing a pale pink head wrap with gold trim. Enriched with jewels, she's wearing layered gold necklaces at the base of her neck, long gold earings,  gold arm braclets, her hands are manicured with spear shaped finger nails dressed with gold antique rings.

Moving our eyes down, the foreground around her, lays an unusual ancient rich warm brown carpet, embossed in gold animal figures. A large brass magical cauldron like pot stands on the carpet, giving off a vapour into the air. To the right stands a traditional Midde Eastern moorish octagonal table in dark brown, on the table stands a tall gold trinket coffee pot and stand.

Casting the eye below, we see a luxurious heap of gorgeous Eastern style shimmering fabrics.

In this classical Oriental painting, behind the damsel is an open veranda, we see a palm with green foilage cascading around the balcony with pretty pink flowers framing the left side of the verandah, beyond it looks out to a radiant Summer's day. In the far distance across the peaceful blue Mediterranean, we just about see the mysterious city buildings on the opposite shoreline and some sail boats. 

The painting is executed in the classic 19th century orientalist genre style, a genre for which the artist, R Lawrence (Manasfi), is known to mainly populate. Although it may resemble the works of other more prominent and well-known artists of the Orientalism genre, this is absolutely one of a kind.

This unique painting gives insight into the depths of the magical fasination o the old Orient.

The painting measures 16 x 12 1/2 inches. Is currently unframed. It's remained in storage since it's realisation in 89 until recent inclusion in the artist's Artmajeur Orientalist gallery.

Behind the creation of this Watercolour

The painting, Asandhimitra, an Indian Fantasy, actually took two or three year's to paint. The pencil drawing was created in the 1980's of the exotic damsel and the foreground of the picture. The figure and carpets were blocked in using Watercolour. The rest of the painting remained an unfinished pencil sketch for a few years.  Not knowing how I wanted to further develop the scene, it became stored away and forgotten, until a couple years later, I came across the old sketch partly painted. Full of new ideas the painting was completed back in the late 80's.

An invaluable piece added to the artist's Artmajeur gallery to view. Signed by the artist bottom left R Manasfi 1989.

The Painting was executed by an English artist, Rozlynn Lawrence Manasfi aka L'Orientaliste, a contemporary Orientalist artist. Her works predominantly represent the modern orientalist era ancient Middle East, North Africa, Egypt and Turkey, depicting scenes of pictorial history in landscape and figurative style.
