Presentation of Ivan Kulinski, sculptor
In recent years, Ivan Kulinski has emerged as one of the most talented and promising sculptors of his generation in the field of contemporary art in Bulgaria. He primarily creates bronze figur but also showcases his talent in monumental outdoor sculpture.
Kulinski focuses on concrete representations stemming from thorough analysis, following a consistent approach in its simplicity. Most of his works exclude narrative history. However, some of his pieces hark back to characters and situations from the past, such as Don Quixote.
Generally, Kulinski does not offer verbose, complex, or multi-figure solutions. On the contrary, his aim is to achieve the purity of the sign, emphasizing the categorical and formal conviction of the silhouette: such is his fundamental artistic creed.
At the same time, he is his own foundry, which allows him to lose none of the richness and natural beauty of the material. This is one of the reasons why his sculptures touch the viewer so convincingly and spontaneously, without any premeditation.
The solutions chosen by the artist regarding composition, volume, and plasticity - whether it be a human being, an animal, or an object - manage to maintain the questioning that arouses keen interest, thanks to the dynamic and rich multiplicity of connections between the figurative and the abstract. He seeks to make the most of the aesthetic and artistic characteristics of metal: the interweaving of volumes, the richness of craftsmanship, the brilliance, and the sophisticated nuances of forms.
Ivan Kulinski works professionally, with consistency, integrity, and remarkable energy, in a field as complex as it is rewarding, where he manages to fully reveal the richness of his artistic talent.
