A reflection on the complexity of growth. Spring is here, but has the bouquet been uprooted or is a hardy being, like the bearberry willow or the diapensia, clinging by shallow roots to a thin surface? I'm a violinist by training, a psychotherapist by trade, and a painter by passion. My training has been informal, and is influenced by my experience expressing the nonverbal through music, and in tuning in to the deepest registers of human communication in the psychoanalytic consulting room. I seek mainly to express deep, mostly nonverbal experiences: emotions and images that emerge from the blurred memories of childhood and the implicit memories that flash upon us in an unexpected passion or a strange interaction with a loved one. I experience my art as a way to discover (or formulate?) what exactly it is that I'm trying to represent, and how to convey something deeply personal in a way that has some resonance for the beholder. Perhaps together we can make something coherent of what I seek to express and what you seek to find, or what either of us seeks to understand in the other.
