Mariya Lyzohub (1909-1998) was a renowned Ukrainian painter who later became one of the founders of the Kazakh national art school. A member of the Union of Artists of the USSR, she was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the Kazakh SSR for her contributions to Kazakh art.

In Lyzohub's works, one can feel sincere kindness and amazing precision in depicting traditional Kazakh way of life and culture - the world that was slowly fading away, which the artist strived to understand and accept as part of the human heritage.

Although Lyzohub created numerous sketches, still life paintings, and portraits, she did not have many large-scale paintings. As the artist herself said, she never sought to paint numerous works. Each of her paintings she "gave birth to like children," giving them her all. In total, she produced about 11-12 paintings. First, Lyzohub would make a sketch, and then paint the work itself without it, coming up with the plot as she went.

Over her prolific career, Mariya Lyzohub captured the spirit of Kazakh Socialist Realism in her art, portraying the culture and everyday life of the Kazakh people. Her most famous internationally acclaimed paintings include "Portrait of Cherkassky" (early 1950s), "Fairy Tale" (1958), "Youth", "Dawn", "Eternity".

The painting "Fairy Tale" (1958) is executed in oil on canvas and kept in the State Museum of Arts of Kazakhstan named after Abylkhan Kasteev in Almaty. It is a prime example of Lyzohub's Kazakh-themed works.

Through her art, Mariya Lyzohub made a major contribution to Kazakh national art school, while remaining connected to her Ukrainian roots.

Even during vacations we are engaged in our favorite business. Today I am in the company of a famous book collector and with the participation of an honored art worker of Ukraine, we are framing a monotype of the People's Artist of the USSR Nikolay Glushchenko in a baguette.

The history of this work of art begins in 1970, when this monotype was presented to a respected person. A lot of time has passed since then and now this rare piece is looking for a new owner.

Zoya Lerman (Lerman-Lutskevich) (June 14, 1934, Kyiv - January 1, 2014, Kyiv) was a prominent Ukrainian artist renowned for her captivating paintings and graphics.
Lerman was a vibrant figure in the second wave of the Kyiv avant-garde underground, alongside her husband Yuri Lutskevich and other talented artists like Ivan Marchuk, Yuli Sheynis, and Yevhen Volobuyev, creating works that amazed with their originality.
After graduating from the Kyiv Art Institute in 1959, where she studied under esteemed masters like Serhiy Hryhoriev, Volodymyr Kostetsky, and Georgiy Melikhov, Zoya Lerman began her active artistic career.

Exciting News for Art Collectors! Planning to export paintings from Ukraine? Look no further! We offer swift and hassle-free permit processing within 1-2 days.

How to obtain permission to export paintings and artworks beyond the borders of Ukraine? A permit from a state expert is required for crossing the Ukrainian border with art objects such as paintings, graphics, and sculptures created after 1950. This permit must be presented to customs officials at the Ukrainian border when exporting these items by airport, train, car, or when sending them by mail.

The purpose of this procedure is to preserve cultural treasures of national significance within Ukraine. Therefore, the permit covers only contemporary art objects created after 1950.

According to the current legislation of Ukraine, the following items are subject to export: paintings, small-scale sculptures, original graphics, tapestries, decorative and applied art objects made of ceramics, porcelain, faience, glass, wood, metal, textiles, and other materials, created after 1950. This is explicitly stated in paragraph 3 of Appendix No. 1 to the Instruction (Instruction on the procedure for obtaining the right to export, temporary export of cultural treasures, and control over their movement across the state border of Ukraine), approved by the Order of the Ministry of Culture and Arts of Ukraine No. 258 dated April 22, 2002.

The aforementioned Instruction is based on the Law of Ukraine "On Export, Import, and Return of Cultural Treasures" No. 1068-XIV (On Export, Import, and Return of Cultural Treasures). According to this law, the expert conclusion is issued no earlier than 30 days from the date of application (petition), to which the following documents must be attached:

1. Document confirming ownership rights to cultural treasures (purchase and sale agreement, receipt).
2. Printed photographs of the art object clearly showing the front side, signatures, and back side.

If you have the aforementioned documents, you need to make an appointment with an expert who will personally verify the accuracy of the information provided in the application. You will be asked to complete a form indicating your details, the approximate value of the art object*, the country to which you are exporting the item, and the recipient (if the artwork will be sent as a package).

KobzarART (Cultural Space Kobzar) recommends stating the actual value of the object, as customs, postal, and insurance services take these factors into account when crossing borders.

According to Article 371 of the Customs Code of Ukraine, goods whose total invoice value does not exceed the equivalent of 10,000 euros are not subject to written declaration by individuals.

It is important to understand that if the artwork is your personal possession, it cannot be considered as a commodity. To avoid ambiguous interpretation by customs services, the packages should be labeled with "For personal use" or "Non-commercial use only."

If you are transporting artworks or sending them by mail for the purpose of exhibition or resale, a different customs procedure applies, which requires full reporting and declaration of art objects as a commercial category.

How to apply for a permit to export paintings and artworks?

To obtain a permit for exporting paintings, you need to prepare the following information:

1. Photos of the painting from the front and back.
2. Painting title.
3. Year of creation.
4. Artist's full name.
5. Painting substrate (canvas, paper, MDF, etc.).
6. Medium used for the painting (oil, acrylic, pencil, etc.).
7. Dimensions of the painting in centimeters.
8. Estimated value of the painting in Ukrainian hryvnia.

The period of Petro Boyko's artistic endeavors during the years of war, 2022-2023, holds a special significance for the artist. In these years, his creativity reached a new level and reflected the profound internal turmoil and numerous everyday challenges associated with the wartime.

The paintings created during this period carry a unique emotional tone as they were produced in the midst of real wartime conditions. The artist worked under the influence of the sounds of artillery shelling, often painting outdoors in the cold winter or by the light of a simple wax candle.

All of this lends Petro Boyko's paintings a distinctive atmosphere and uniqueness. They bear witness to the passage of time, reflecting the emotional depth and complexity of the artist's experiences during the war. While we are not yet ready to offer these artworks for sale, they remain available for viewing and appreciation within the confines of our gallery. Hello, friends and art collectors! In today's blog post, we want to share with you an exciting event that recently took place in the cultural space of Kobzar - an exhibition by the prominent Ukrainian avant-garde artist, Petro Boyko.
This exhibition, held at the National Museum of Ukrainian Folk Decorative Art in Kyiv, Ukraine, was truly remarkable. Petro Boyko's artworks were displayed alongside the paintings of renowned Ukrainian artist, Maria Pryimachenko. Boyko's creations from the period of war (2022-2023) represent a distinct chapter in his artistic legacy.
In the video we are sharing today, you can see that KobzarArt gallery houses a substantial collection of Petro Boyko's paintings. Some of these artworks have already found their owners, such as BitMet and baraeva, who are temporarily keeping their Boyko paintings in the storage of Kobzar's cultural space.
Furthermore, some of these paintings are currently available for sale. However, after the exhibition, we plan to suspend sales for an extended period as we have significant interest from exhibitions and galleries interested in showcasing Petro Boyko's works. Our team is already working on planning future exhibitions.

From June 23, 2023, to July 2, 2023, the exhibition of paintings by Petro Boyko, created in 2023, titled "Honest Naïve," is taking place at the National Museum of Ukrainian Folk Decorative Art in Kyiv.

Lyudmyla Strokovа, the Director-General of the NMUFDA, welcomed the Ukrainian avant-garde artist Petro Borisovich Boyko in Kyiv.

Vadym Mykhаlchuk, a professor at the Department of Art Expertise at the Academy of Cultural and Arts Management, and the curator of the exhibition, mentioned that the "Honest Naïve" exhibition is exceptional because these paintings bring smiles and evoke positive emotions in people, even in times of war.

"From the first glance, from the first painting, he captivated me with his art forever. There is something cosmic about it. I won't be objective because I'm deeply fascinated by him. However, I was particularly impressed by the creative description written by Halyna Sklyarenko, a renowned art critic, which I will quote for you".

The artwork of Petro Boyko is subjective yet deeply rooted in the traditional imagery of Ukrainian folk motifs and worldview.

It extends beyond the boundaries of realistic art, where the irregularities of grotesque, sincerity, and pronounced subjectivity express his unique life position. Consequently, rather than conventional beauty and harmony, I find myself increasingly attracted to the expressiveness, peculiarity, and individuality that, on one hand, align him with the principles of folk art, and on the other hand, open up paths to the world of modernism, where the vividness of cubism and the pronounced expressiveness of expressionism have become close to him.

These characteristics find their reflection in his works, immersing him in the realm of Ukrainian national tradition, where the main features are folklore and naturalness, directness and optimistic dedication, capable of endowing the simplest motifs with strength, energy, and imagination, which guarantee the persuasiveness of his art. He doesn't merely imitate natural images; he transforms them on canvases, shaping them freely.

It's worth mentioning the famous quote by Henri Matisse, who, contemplating the artist's gaze at first sight, said: "There are two ways of seeing things: to show or to feel them." Petro Boyko chooses to be captivated.

What is "naïve" art?

Naïve art (also known as naïve art or folk art) is an artistic style characterized by spontaneity, simplicity, and a lack of pretense. It originated in the folk environment and embodies a direct representation of the world through the eyes of folk artists, who often lack formal art education.

Naïve art is often characterized by naive, simple colors and forms, conscious childlike qualities, and unrealistic depiction. It can include vivid imaginative narratives, scenes from rural life, portraits of people, animals, and natural objects.

This art style reflects the simplicity and unadorned aesthetics of folk life, conveying the artist's inner world through a unique perspective on the world. Naïve art has gained popularity as a form of self-expression and individuality, as well as an embodiment of cultural heritage and national identity.
This style can be found in various countries and cultures under different names. For example, in France, it is called "art naïf," in Brazil - "arte naïf," and in the United States - "primitive art."

Naive art is a unique and intriguing phenomenon in the world of art that captivates with its enchanting expressiveness.

"From the first days of the war, I didn't observe bright colors; I didn't see them. Only war was reflected on the canvases. But over time, I understood that people need hope, optimism, spiritual support to believe in victory and bring it closer. I dedicated and continue to dedicate many of my works to supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine. They are bought, and volunteers direct the funds for the needs of the military. Now, thoughts of Victory dwell in my heart. I prepared this exhibition with our Victory in mind," shared Petro Boyko.

Since the beginning of the war in 2022, the team of the cultural space "Kobzar" has been supporting the heroic defenders of Ukraine and Ukrainian artists. We have collected a collection of Peter Boyko's paintings created in 2022-2023. We are gathering these paintings for the creation of our own exhibition, which will take place in due time. Additionally, some of the artist's canvases will be digitized and included in the NFT collection for exhibition in the metaverse.
