My landscape work aims to capture the essence of a place, I work freely, using colour and line to create a rhythmic composition. Echoes of impressionism are reflected in the work. I work with thick textured paint applied to the surface. I am inspired by the natural world and its ever-changing presence, the forms of trees, the curves of the land, the expanse of the ocean, and the beautiful and amazing skies. Places are special to me as they trigger memories of a moment or a time, whilst to the viewer a painting of a place can be somewhere to wonder about, reflect upon and enjoy.´

Coral Tree paintings
The coral tree is a beautiful tropical plant with brilliant red flowers. The first painting was completed at the beginning of Spring in Manilva, Andalucia. Although this painting has a bright blue sky it was actually a sunny but very cold morning. I was inspired by the twisted greyish mass of branches and did not initially notice the bright red flowers emerging at the base. The painting will feature in the Regeneration exhibition at Hansard Studio Gallery in London in December 2023. A few weeks I later returned to the same place and painted the second piece when the tree was in bloom.
´Budding Coral Tree with Palms´ 2023 oil on canvas 80x80cm
´Coral Tree in Bloom´ 2023 oil on canvas 2023 80x80cm
An atmospheric, heavily textured impressionistic oil painting of the almond blossom trees in Andalucia, with beautiful goldfinches flying through the landscape.
The colours and textures are reminiscent of Van Goghs olive trees series, which was completed in 1889. Whilst also containing traces of Hockney's recent landscape work.
In this piece, I have included the goldfinches to describe the characteristics of the Andalucian environment and the life of the wilderness.
Signed on the front.

Seascapes for Summer

It's Summer, it's hot and the turquoise and aquas of the Mediterranean are inspiring me to paint. This painting of the rocky bay at Playa de los Toros in Manilva is the first in a new series of seascapes for 2023.
I have been inspired by this beautiful painting by Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida the master of light of the Rocks at Jávea.
