Kingolazo: A Journey from Peki to the Canvas.Born on a Wednesday, July 8, 1981, in the vibrant Peki-Avetile community of the Volta Region, Kingolazo (Wuaku wise Kweku Olazo) embarked on a journey that would redefine the Ghanaian art scene. Growing up under the loving guidance of his parents, Lawrence Kofi Wuaku and Marriam Ama Attah, Kingolazo's artistic inclinations were nurtured from a tender age.His formal education began at the African Advance Primary School in Ashiaman in the Tema Region and continued at the Evangelical Presbyterian Junior Secondary School,Ho, culminating in his secondary education at Kpedze Secondary School. However, it was at the Ghana College of Art and Design that Kingolazo's artistic talents truly blossomed. Graduating in 2005 with the distinctive brush name "Kingolazo," which is accepted by all and sundry, he not only honed his skills but also discovered a passion for teaching.A year later, Kingolazo enrolled in the Amedzofe EP College of Education, where he earned his professional teaching certification in 2008. This dual pursuit of art and education reflected his desire to share his knowledge and inspire the next generation of artists. In 2012, Kingolazo's artistic journey took another significant step as he joined the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology to study BFA Painting and Sculpture. This academic pursuit further refined his artistic techniques and broadened his understanding of the visual arts.Beyond his formal education, Kingolazo's artistic exploration has been marked by a diverse range of mediums and techniques. From traditional brushes and pencils to innovative direct printing methods and even repurposed jute sacks, his works have captivated audiences with their unique textures and expressive qualities. In addition to his visual arts, Kingolazo has also demonstrated a talent for footwear design. This creative outlet showcases his versatility and ability to translate his artistic vision into functional objects.Drawing inspiration from his early childhood experiences and his deep connection to his roots, Kingolazo has become a mentor to countless aspiring artists. Through his workshops and guidance, he has empowered individuals to pursue their artistic passions and contribute to the rich tapestry of Ghanaian art.Kingolazo's journey from a young boy in Peki-Avetile to a renowned artist and teacher is a testament to his dedication, talent, and unwavering commitment to his craft.
