Juliana Rabelo, a contemporary Brazilian painter, was born on June 4th, 1977, in a tiny hippie community nestled in the countryside of Rio de Janeiro. Her early years were marked by a unique journey that took her far from home, as she, along with her mother, father, and brother, ventured to Mozambique when she was just one year old. They resided there for three years, and it was amidst the streets of Maputo, the capital city of Mozambique, that Juliana's first memories related to art were formed. She fondly recalls scouring the broken stretches of sidewalks, where she would sketch and draw on the sandy terrain, a practice that ignited her love for colors and creativity.
Africa left an indelible mark on Juliana, shaping her artistic sensibilities and instilling in her a profound appreciation for vibrant hues and imaginative expression. Her art reflects a unique blend of influences, marrying the richness of Brazilian culture with the vibrancy of African landscapes.
Juliana describes herself as a naive artist, painting with her heart and infusing her work with a sense of authenticity and emotional depth. Her paintings, characterized by their creative, unpretentious, and visually captivating nature, invite contemplation and reflection on the themes they present.
Femininity serves as a central motif in Juliana's art, as she draws inspiration from the extraordinary women who have touched her life. Behind each painting lies the story of a muse who has stirred her imagination, be it fairies, mermaids, witches, or other archetypal figures. These paintings, deeply personal and imbued with symbolism, are dedicated to the remarkable women who have influenced Juliana's journey.
Juliana finds solace and connection in the realization that she shares a profound bond with her muses and with women everywhere, united by a common ancestral web. Through her art, she seeks to celebrate the interconnectedness of humanity, weaving together strands of DNA, roots, and dreams to honor the divine feminine and the universal sisterhood that binds us all.
