Between the Lines

Julien Iglesias invites us to explore what is hidden behind the obvious. At first glance, the gaze is stopped by these dark, vertical, almost oppressive lines. They seem to partition the space, fractionate the light, prevent a complete view of the background. However, it is precisely between these lines that life takes on all its richness.

The background, diffuse and vibrant, oscillates between shades of blue, green, turquoise, ochre and pink. This play of colours, similar to a moving sea or a changing sky, contrasts with the rigidity of the black lines in the foreground. This contrast is voluntary: it symbolises the tension between our mental frameworks (beliefs, conditioning, fears) and the broader and more fluid reality that exists beyond.

Julien does not denounce the existence of these "lines", he questions them. They can represent:

• social norms that define what to see or think;

• personal filters that alter our perception of beauty, of the other, of the world;

• or even, paradoxically, the necessary benchmarks to structure our gaze.

But he reminds us that the essential is not in these lines themselves, but in the spaces they leave between them, in these interstices where light still circulates, where the imagination infiltrates.

Each spectator is thus led to ask himself:

What are my own lines? What do they prevent me from seeing?

What if I took the time to look... between them?
