In "Renaissance in Colours", the artist Josep Pozo offers a contemporary and vibrant interpretation of Leonardo da Vinci's La Gioconda. The work, made with acrylic, collage and various recycled materials, conveys a sense of renewal and vitality.
At the centre of the canvas, the figure of La Gioconda emerges with an enigmatic expression, her penetrating gaze capturing the viewer's attention. However, instead of the subdued colour palette typical of the Renaissance, the figure is surrounded by an explosion of vivid, contrasting tones.
The use of collage adds texture and depth to the work. Fragments of old newspapers, pieces of recycled fabric and scraps of cardboard play an important role in the composition, adding layers of meaning and visual complexity. These recycled materials, rather than being discarded, find new life in the work, symbolising the idea of transformation and reuse.
The background of the painting is dotted with symbolic elements and cultural references. Fragments of old maps, abstract symbols and fragments of Latvian interior decorators.
In creating this work, I have harmoniously blended abstract, expressionist and impressionist styles to bring to life a rich tapestry of emotions. Through vivid acrylic brushstrokes and tactile collage, whispers of pencil and unexpected objects wrapped in latex, I have fostered an energetic dialogue between tradition and innovation. It is a visual symphony intended for
