ERIC RANCOURT : BIO

Eric Rancourt est né à Sherbrooke en 1968. Il y a survécu l`école secondaire secondaire en étant bon en arts. C`est là qu`il a fait son premier film super-8 (animation dessin par dessin) et sa première vidéo, qui a été diffusée sur les ondes de Radio-Québec et a gagné le premier prix dans le cadre d`une émission qui s`intitulait L`Enjeu Vidéo en 1985. Il a renié ses premiers amours en étudiant le graphisme de 1985 à 1988, au CÉGEP de Sherbrooke. Il a vécu et voyagé avec une caméra vidéo en Amérique Centrale pendant 2 ans et à son retour, déménagé à Vancouver. C`est là qu`il a retrouvé ses premiers amours, en étudiant le film et la vidéo au Emily Carr Institute of Arts and Design, de 1992 à 1996. Ses court-métrages se sont rapidement orientés vers une exploration des thèmes d`identité sexuelle et culturelle. Son instinct lui a fait développer un style réaliste et absurde en même temps, teinté d`un humour noir. Il a toujours senti le besoin d`une représentation explicite de la sexualité, puisqu`elle fait partie de l`histoire. L`HOMME GRUAU est sa première réalisation depuis son retour au Québec. Puis, il a réalisé plusieurs vidéos courtes qui sont disponibles pour visionnement sur Internet.
