Jos Tappe is a contemporary German artist. Alongside his artistic pursuits, Tappe embarked on a journey into the world of architecture, commencing his studies at FHS Bielefeld in 2021.
From a young age, Tappe found himself drawn to the graffiti scene, captivated by its vibrant colors and expressive motifs. Over time, he honed his skills, transforming the walls of his village of Herford into captivating works of art. Through a municipal project in 2018, Tappe gained official permission to artistically adorn various corners of his hometown with his spray can creations, challenging the perception of graffiti as mere scribbles.
As his artistic journey progressed, Tappe's creative expression evolved. By 2020, he transitioned from public spaces to the canvas, setting up a studio in the basement of his family home. This shift culminated in his first solo exhibition at Galerie Mond in Berlin in 2023, followed by a collective exhibition later that year.
Tappe's art is imbued with nostalgia, featuring beloved characters from childhoods past, such as Minnie, Jerry, Scrooge, and Bugs. Through his work, he captures the essence of "the good life," inspiring viewers to embrace joy and optimism. In the Tappe household, the sound of graffiti cans has become a constant reminder of the artist's dedication to his craft and his commitment to spreading positivity through art.
