Joas Nebe is a contemporary German artist, curator, and academic whose multifaceted career bridges psychology, media studies, literature, and theater. A graduate of the University of Hamburg, he also trained in traditional art techniques at a private art school. Nebe began his professional journey lecturing on film analysis at Hamburg University and analyzing advertising campaigns for Reemtsma before dedicating himself to art and curatorial work in 2000.

Nebe’s artistic and curatorial projects have been featured in Berlin, Milan, and Tehran. Highlights include his exhibition “Climate Change Cartoons” at the 2011 UN Climate Change Conference in Durban and “Machine Fair” at Moscow’s Museum of Modern Art in 2012. His films have been showcased at prestigious international festivals, including Les Instants Video in Cairo, Videoformes Festival, Sustain Our Africa, Madatac in Madrid, and Papy Gyros Nights in Hong Kong. His work has also been exhibited at venues such as the Biblioteca Alexandrina, ART_TECTURE, and SHIFT:ibpcpa’s “In 24hours: Future Visions.”

Known for seamlessly combining classical and digital mediums, Nebe’s art explores a wide range of themes, from intimate psychological insights to societal reflections. By incorporating elements of literature, nature, and technology, his work offers a thought-provoking and visually compelling experience.

A recipient of numerous awards, stipends, and residencies, Nebe continues to challenge conventional notions of communication in the digital era. His pieces highlight the evolving relationship between painting and media, showcasing how these forms can complement one another and remain relevant in a post-internet world. Through his innovative and engaging art, Joas Nebe invites audiences to reconsider the boundaries of creativity and expression.
