This was a self portrait that had been left unfinished for a decade and this year I had a vision for it of a waterfall crashing onto my shoulders. This was a self portrait that had been left unfinished for a decade and this year I had a vision for it of a waterfall crashing onto my shoulders. I used reference pictures of Niagara Falls for the water, but much of it was created from my own imagination, to mix the images as I saw in my head. Niagara Falls is the area where my mother's family comes from. Whenever I stand in front of it, it's hard not to feel a spiritual presence in the power and vastness of time it represents, in it's unending roar. This makes me think about the eternal nature of my own life, a realization that hits like the crash of water in the image. The t-shirt in the painting is one I bought at a Radiohead concert in 2008, featuring the lyrics, "No matter how it ends, no matter how it starts."

Born in 1986 in Buffalo, New York, Jeffry spent his childhood in southern Ontario and most of his young adulthood in New York City. Returning to the Niagara area in 2013, he began painting with oils in his father’s studio almost immediately and hasn’t stopped since.  Over the last decade, Burke has developed his own style of painting that mixes bold color and raw emotion, abstraction and figuration, all these elements tied together by the constant desire to connect with his audience on the deepest level.
