This weaving is created using a "tejido de bastidor" a hand loom. The loom is created using a cotton warp and hand looming wool line by line. There is no pre set design. The design is created as the work progreses. There is a conversation that happens between artist and the art creating the application of colour and design as the piece progreses. This work is a representation of the Mexican countryside "el campo" which I love. The vibrancy of the landscape, the warmth of the people of this country and the respect I have for my home is integreated into this weaving.

Jeff Ferst was born in the US and moved to Canada after graduating New York University, BFA. He spent most of his life there before returning to the US and then moving to San Miguel de Allende, México where he lived until 2023 then moving to a larger community in Querétaro.  Ferst received his first gallery representation in New York City at the age of 18 while studying at NYU. Since then Ferst's work has been exhibited and sold by galleries around the world. He has exhibited along side many artists including Robert Rauschenberg, Robert Indiana & Jasper Johns. In one exhibition with those artists his work was singled out as the flagship piece of the exhibit. Critics have called his work joyful, juicy, flamboyant and full of life. In one critique his work was referred to as having "musicality" and being "organic". These days you can find Ferst in his studio creating new paintings or involved in his new passion - weaving. His weavings are extraordinarily unique. An ancient Mexican craft he has transformed his hand loomed pieces into vehicles to capture his eye for nature and colour.
