Château LAFITE-ROTHSCHILD is a Médoc wine estate with an area of 178 hectares, including 103 ha of vines, located in the commune of Pauillac and producing wine under the appellation of the same name. It produces one of the most prestigious and famous Bordeaux wines in the world.
Château LAFITE takes its name from the La FITE family, formerly allied to the House of Foix through the marriage of Joseph de Foix, baron de MARDOGNE, knight of the Order of the King, who had married Françoise de La FITE, daughter of Thibaud. Pierre de La FITE, Intendant of the King's Orders, Treasurer-General of the Parties-Casuelles, owner of the Pauillac wine estate, was lord of
GOUSSENCOURT. Required in 1734, he produced proof of his nobility through twelve generations, and was discharged by decree of the Council of State dated February 12, 1740.
Jean-Jacques de La FITE, the last male representative of this house, was born in Pau on November 5, 1690 and died on October 20, 1740 in Paris. Marguerite de La FITE, belonging to this family, had married Jean de GACHASSIN, youngest son of Adrien-Arnaud de GACHASSIN, captain of the Militia of Albret, who became in 1555, lord of the Abbey of Orthez, erected in his favor in the Noble Land by letters patent from Antoine and Jeanne, king and queen of Navarre.
From the 17th century, the property of Château LAFITE fell into the hands of the Ségur family, with the LAFITE manor dating from the 16th century and which still exists. It is from 1680 that we have the first trace of the existence of an important vineyard which was planted by Jacques de Ségur. In the 18th century, the Marquis Nicolas-Alexandre de Ségur perfected the winemaking technique and around 1760 the Duke of Richelieu introduced it to the Court of Versailles.
On August 8, 1868, Baron James de Rothschild acquired Château LAFITE put up for public sale as part of the estate of Ignace-Joseph VANLERBERGHE.
From 1946 to 1974, Élie de Rothschild took the reins of Château LAFITE-ROTHSCHILD. In 1975, Baron Éric de ROTHSCHILD, nephew of Baron ÉLIE, replaced him. In 2017, Saskia de Rothschild, daughter of Baron Eric, replaced him. Since the 1980s and until 2015, the technical management of the vineyard has been carried out by Charles Chevallier. In 2016, Éric Kohler replaced him.
The castle has been registered as a historic monument since November 22, 19894
Jean-Yves Saint Lezer, a contemporary French artist, embarked on his artistic journey from a tender age, initially expressing his creativity through pencil drawings. The spark ignited during his school days, where he vividly recalls sketching a sailboat (a corvette) that adorned the cover of his notebooks. His artistic endeavors expanded as he repeatedly drew and diversified into landscapes, still lifes, and various subjects.
Life took its course, and Jean-Yves Saint Lezer pursued a career until retirement, putting his artistic passion on hold. With the luxury of time in retirement, he rekindled his love for painting, primarily focusing on landscapes and still lifes. His creations are characterized by a unique and pure artistic vision, reflecting his personal interpretations.
In his artistic practice, Jean-Yves draws inspiration from renowned painters like Bill Alexander and Bob Ross, both known for their mastery of the wet-on-wet technique. While adhering to this technique, Jean-Yves goes beyond, combining multiple artistic approaches to diversify his style. His paintings stand as a testament to the harmonious fusion of influences, resulting in a body of work that is uniquely his own.
As Jean-Yves Saint Lezer continues to explore and experiment with various techniques, his art resonates with a genuine passion for creation. Retired but invigorated by the opportunity to pursue his artistic calling, he brings a fresh perspective to the canvas, creating pieces that reflect not only his skill but also the joy derived from the process of artistic expression.
