"Dans l'ombre jusqu'à l'enclume. Sculpteur de la vie , l'homme au visage cuivré, les pieds soudés aux amarres de la terre, le geste vif et adroit en rite incandescent, s'éclaire d'étincelles au rythme du marteau."
Do we now have to introduce ourselves to exist? Well, in three words then! 1954 to 1970… The time of a childhood in Alsace, of a decisive meeting with the Alsatian painter Luc Dornstetter and the birth of a devouring passion… of colors, of shapes, of lives… Painting… I immerse myself in it, explore and lose myself in the depths… 1974 to 2014… Life… a life of work, of successes, of failures… The great wealth of having a family… and painting put on hold… Under the sky of Beauce… My adopted Beauce! 2014 retirement… and this same furious desire to stick my patiently calculated oils on the canvas, stratified in superimposed glazes. Just like the photographer, I observe the magma of materials, shapes and colours, in nature as in the city, then I extract the substance. The snapshot of a vision gives flesh to the visible world. From then on, it is an authentic world, with a beating heart, fragile, knowing suffering, a world aspiring to silence… I love life, my hope is that it can be seen, I should say that it can be heard!!! Claudel rightly evoked this listening eye, the inner eye that sees and makes visible the inner music. I like warm tones, my palette happily plays with chords of yellow and red, red and blue… I paint according to my own idyllic vision… My paintings are the reflection of my emotions of these moments that transport you and upset you. Each gesture came about through the passion for colors that gradually take shape and give a new canvas…
I leave it to others to talk about my work…
“Jean-Marie REYNAUD reveals himself as much as the painter of form as of color, all in harmony, violence or softness. The abrupt features of his “flat country” - Beauce -, of his New York or Venetian buildings, compete with the curves embedded in feminine figures, flowers blooming with animism. Because everything is a question of soul. It is revealed in the contrast of the flamboyant and the dark. Everything is fiery red, mixed with browns or blues. It is revealed in the dichotomy between precise geometric realism and closed spherical dreaminess. Yet it is an open life that is presented to us, offered to us. Discovery of a landscape both exterior and interior: the country of the heart in colors. »
