Jean Gaudaire-Thor was born in Sens in 1947.

He lives and works in France and Italy. He began painting and sculpting in 1965. Study trips took him to Egypt, Greece, the United States, China and Ethiopia. But it was during his first study trip to Egypt in 1975 that he developed his work on primordial signs. Passionate about archeology and prehistory, he was able to build his work using these primitive and secret languages, and create bridges with our contemporaneity. The artist combines figurative elements with vigorous abstract signs. A real osmosis, a complementary relationship, is established between the two elements. The same motif can give rise to various treatments such as variations on the same theme in music. Since 1967, his work has been the subject of over 300 solo and group exhibitions in Europe and the United States. It is present in many public and private collections. (Museum of Modern Art, Paris; National Library, Paris; Sens Museums; Rimbaud Museum, Charleville Mézières; Beyeler Foundation, Basel.)
